Orthodontics
New York, New York
Orthodontic movement can not only be used to straighten teeth for esthetic
reasons but, if done neuromuscularly, to improve your bite and manage temporomandibular
joint disorders (TMD). Using orthodontics, Dr. Ferro can move teeth into a more
comfortable and natural position.
Occlusal adjustment may also involve reshaping the occlusal surfaces of your
teeth in order to create harmonious contact relationships between your maxillary
(upper) and mandibular (lower jaw) teeth.
Many people fear that their teeth will eventually move back to their original
position. However, orthodontic procedures are permanent when done with neuromuscular
occlusion in mind because your teeth will be neuromuscularly aligned in a truly
natural position. In other words, your muscles and teeth will reinforce the alignment
whenever your mouth is closed.
Occlusal adjustment is available for retreatment as well. Adults who had a similar
procedure under one of the old methods of orthodontics may notice that their teeth
shifted back to their original position. Orthodontic occlusal adjustment can be used
to reposition these teeth and, more importantly, keep your teeth in the desired position.
Orthodontics are used to correct a number of different dental problems.
Whether they are used to expand the arch of a mouth, or just straighten a few
teeth, many people use orthodontics everyday.
While many people tend to think of metal braces when they think of orthodontics,
braces are not the only orthodontic choice to correct crooked or crowded teeth. If
the dental problems are identified and treated early enough, traditional braces can
be avoided all together.
Dr. Ferro uses orthodontics to correct a wide variety of dental problems, including:
- Gaps between teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Protruding teeth
- Jaw problems
Orthodontics begin with an initial consultation and examination. During your
initial consultation, Dr. Ferro will evaluate your teeth, jaw, and future growth
using computer imaging, x-rays, and other orthodontic equipment.
From this evaluation, Dr. Ferro will be able to determine what type of treatment
will work best for you, how long the treatment will last, and how much the treatment
should cost.
For many people, metal braces are not needed for the amount of correction
they would like or need. For moderate orthodontic problems, Dr. Ferro can provide
you with other orthodontic solutions, including:
- Arch Expanders
- Retainers
- Clear Braces
